NEWS: Ulaanbaatar Marathon

Over 300 Athletes and Amateurs participate in the Ulaanbaatar Marathon

The second annual international marathon competition called “Ulaanbaatar Marathon” was held on June 4th, jointly with the administration of Ulaanbaatar city, the Mongolian Olympic Committee, Mongolian Athletics Federation and Ar Mongol Travel Group, one of leading tour operators of Mongolia.

The marathon started at 7.00am from Central Square and was organized in 4 categories: 1.5 kilometers, 5 km, 21 km or half marathon, 42 km and 195 km or classic marathon.

The first place of classic marathon of men was won by the international honored master B.Ser-Od, who is won for the second time, and received MNT 1 million monetary prizes. L.Otgonbayar won the international honored master in the women marathon.

The marathon was organized by Mongolian and international experts. The course was measured in accordance with IAAF guidelines.

The competition was attended by over 300 athletes and amateurs aged from 7 to 70 years old and included 100 marathoners from Germany, England, USA, Japan and China as well as disabled people.

The marathon was not restricted to running, but also colorful and festive events accompanied by cultural performances associated with the history of Great Genghis khan’s Mongolia, Mini-Naadam festival and Mongolian Noodle party.
